Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a pathological condition that affects millions of men around the world. According to the WHO statistics, not more than 20 % of men apply for problems with erectile dysfunction, and only a third of them agree to full treatment.

Aim. To analyze the assortment and study the volume of the drug consumption for the treatment of erectile dysfunction at the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market within 2014-2016.

Materials and methods. Drugs for the treatment of ED presented at the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine were analyzed according to the “Pharmstandard” analytical system of the pharmaceutical market research of MORION company. Volumes of drug consumption for the treatment of ED were studied using the ATC/DDD methodology recommended by the WHO. Data on DDD values are available on the WHO website.

Results. During 2014-2016 there was a decrease in the number of TNs from 133 TNs based on 6 INNs in 2014 to 121 TNs based on 6 INNs in 2016. According to the analysis of the volume of the drug consumption for the treatment of ED in DDDs/1000 inhabitants/day there was no increase in the consumption of these drugs during the study period (from 1.029 DDDs/1000 inhabitants/day in 2014 to 0.944 DDDs/1000 inhabitants/day in 2016). At the same time, the greatest share in the total drug consumption for ED treatment is typical for Sildenafil (the peak consumption in 2016 was 0.51 DDDs/1000 inhabitants/day).

Conclusions. Against the background of stability of the drug consumption for symptomatic treatment of ED during three years it has been found that in Ukraine there is a large number of patients who do not receive in full, or do not receive adequate ED treatment at all.
